• Director - Regional Transit Agency

    The North Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments is seeking a Director for its Regional Transit Agency.  The position will be located at the Council’s central office in Decatur, Alabama.   
    The Position
    The Director of the Regional Transit Agency is responsible for the planning and operations of the programs and services of the Regional Transit Agency which currently provides transit services in Lawrence and Morgan counties.  Responsibilities include budgeting, program monitoring and personnel management.  The Director is responsible for a budget of approximately $1,500,000.  The Director is expected to be creative and proactive in the expansion of services and funding.  The Director must develop positive working relationships with political, governmental and community leadership throughout the region and with state and Federal agencies.  The Director reports to the Executive Director who is the chief executive officer for the Council.  The Director will be a member of the Council’s central management team.  As such, the Director is expected to be a knowledgeable advocate for all Council programs and services, whether or not they relate to transportation services.  The compensation package includes a starting salary of $66,684 with benefits including medical insurance and retirement.
    The Area
    The area served by the Regional Transit Agency covers two counties in north central Alabama.  Those counties are Lawrence County and Morgan County.  In addition to the two counties, there are 12 municipalities within the service area.  The total population of the service area is approximately 154,000 in a mix of rural and urban communities.  Situated on the southerly bank of the Tennessee River, the area has ample opportunities for outdoor recreation.  The employment base is largely industrial with the local economy having a strong agricultural component as well.
    The Agency
    The Regional Transit Agency is a component of the Regional Council of Governments.  The Council is made up of a Board of Directors representing the local governments of a three county region.  The Council is staffed by an administrative department, which includes the chief executive officer and the chief financial officer, along with the Regional Planning Agency and the Area Agency on Aging.  The programs of the Regional Transit Agency include, but are not limited to, general demand response service, transportation for elder nutrition and meal delivery, non-emergency medical transportation, and job access.
