DESCRIPTION:Join Wild South for a hike in the Sipsey Wilderness!\n\nDestination: Mize Mills Falls\n\nLeader: Janice Barrett\n\nDistance: Approx. 1.5 miles roundtrip\n\nLevel of challenge: Moderate\n\n \n\nAll ages welcome!\n\nWild South's first guided hike of autumn will take place in the southern part of the Sipsey Wilderness in the Bankhead National Forest. The two waterfalls on this short hike will be waterfalls by name only unless we get some rain before October 5. Even without flowing water\, this is a beautiful hike that follows Turkeyfoot Creek through a forest of Eastern hemlock\, American beech and cove hardwoods. Sandstone bluffs define the route and provide cooling shelter. \n\n \n\nThe unofficial\, unsanctioned trail is unmaintained\, narrow\, rough\, rocky\, rooty and briefly steep in a few places. There will be time at lunch to sit\, explore\, hang a hammock\, sketch\, journal\, so bring what you need!\n\n \n\nHikers may meet at the trailhead (Sipsey Recreation Area parking lot on Cranal Road\, aka Winston County Road 61) at 10:00 instead of the Wild South office if that is more convenient. Please make note of preferred meeting place when signing up.\n\nThere is a $3 per vehicle fee at the trailhead kiosk.\n\nBring a small daypack with lunch\, snacks\, drinking water. If severe allergies to insect stings are a concern\, remember to pack your Epi-Pen.\n\n \n\nNo dogs nor smoking on this hike\, please.
